Is Abstinence Education Effective?

How would abstinence education stack up against comprehensive sex education if they were evaluated in a deliberate and controlled way? That is the question that Dr. Christine Markham and her colleagues at the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health in Houston are trying to answer in an ongoing study among middle school students funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Preliminary results from the study were presented at a national meeting of public health professionals in November 2009.
