Medical Institute, El Paso, Texas

MI has worked in the El Paso, TX area to effect change through accurate scientific information and consensus building through community mobilization.
Since the inception of the El Paso Border Health project, MI El Paso has developed partnerships and collaborated with many El Paso organizations, leveraging social, capital, and financial resources to improve the sexual health of the community.

These partners include the DSHS Region 9/10 Office for the Elimination of Health Disparities and the Office of Border Health, Education Service Center (ESC) Region 19 Wellness and Migrant Education Programs, KINCARE, and Mom's the Word. Other partners include Two Should Know Initiative organizations, Fabens, San Elizario and Canutillo ISDs; Center Against Family Violence; and STD Workforce Coalition members in El Paso County.

MI El Paso has also collaborated with school districts, including El Paso, Fabens, Ysleta, Socorro, and Fort Hancock, to help parents and children talk about sexual issues, overcome barriers to sexual health, and develop a positive vision of healthy sexuality. Over the years, MI El Paso has provided sexual health education to promotoras, middle and high school students and their parents and grandparents.

MI has also conducted culturally and educationally appropriate programs, conferences for youth and adults and training workshops for health care and education professionals including physicians, nurse, social workers, counselors, teachers and others.
